Nakano Broadway Shopping Street is located in Nakano 5-chome, Nakano Ward, Tokyo, Japan. It is a mixed-use complex that combines commercial and residential spaces. Since its opening in 1966, it has become one of the most iconic landmarks in the Nakano area. It is directly connected to the Nakano Sun Mall, and just a short walk from the north exit of Nakano Station. The other end leads to Waseda-dori, making it very convenient to access.
The building houses a shopping mall from the basement floor to the 4th floor, while the upper middle and higher floors are used for residential purposes. The basement mainly serves daily needs and includes a large SEIYU supermarket, a fresh food market, drugstores, and more — catering to the basic shopping needs of both locals and tourists. The ground floor features a wide variety of unique stores, including second-hand electronics shops, specialty fashion boutiques, themed restaurants, and maid cafés, creating a personalized and distinctive shopping experience.
The 2nd to 4th floors are the most iconic part of Nakano Broadway, focusing on the sale of manga, anime merchandise, figurines and models, doujinshi (self-published works), retro video games, and other subculture-related goods. Many specialty stores, such as the famous MANDARAKE, draw large numbers of anime fans and collectors looking for hidden treasures. Because of this, Nakano Broadway is considered one of Tokyo’s symbols of otaku subculture and is even dubbed a “paradise for nerds.”
