Nishijin Textile Center

Nishijin weaving is a traditional textile craft originating from Kyoto, Japan, known for its long history and exquisite craftsmanship.
The name "Nishijin" first appeared between 1467 and 1477 during the Ōnin War, when the Western Army was stationed in that area. Although there is currently no official administrative district named "Nishijin" in Kyoto City, most Nishijin weaving artisans are concentrated in the northwestern part of the city.
Both "Nishijin" and "Nishijin-ori" are registered trademarks of the Nishijin Textile Industry Association. This association has also established the Nishijin Textile Center in Kyoto, which showcases the culture and products related to Nishijin weaving. The exhibition space is open up to the second floor. The first floor features a stage where kimono shows are regularly held to highlight the charm of Nishijin textiles, along with a display area introducing the history of Nishijin weaving. The second floor serves as a marketplace selling various Nishijin-related products, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding and experience of this traditional craft.
