Taipei Main Station, located in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan, is a major railway hub integrating Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), and the Taipei Metro. It also offers a convenient transfer to the Taoyuan Airport MRT via underground passages. Surrounded by the Taipei Bus Station and several city and intercity bus terminals, it stands as one of the most important transportation centers in the Taipei metropolitan area, alongside Banqiao Station and Nangang Station.
Originally established in 1891, the station has undergone multiple relocations and reconstructions. The current station building was inaugurated in 1989. In addition to serving as a transportation hub, it also houses the headquarters of the Taiwan Railways Corporation. With the development of the high-speed rail and metro systems, the station area has evolved into an extensive underground commercial district. The nearby "Taipei Main Station Special Zoning District" covers 46.31 hectares, including the station front and rear shopping areas, Beimen Station, and the Huashan Cultural and Creative Park. It is also a key component of the Taipei City Government's West District Gateway Project.
According to past data, over 100,000 people pass through the station daily. In 2013, it ranked 25th among the busiest stations in the world and is the busiest railway station in Taiwan.
Traditionally, locals referred to it as the "Taipei Train Station", or in Taiwanese Hokkien, "Tâi-pak hó͘-chhia-thâu" or "Tâi-pak chia-thâu". Since the 2010s, internet users often abbreviate it as "北車" (Běichē).
