Okayama Omote-chō Shopping Street, located in Kita Ward, Okayama City, is one of the city’s largest and most historic commercial districts. Centered around the Tenmaya Okayama Main Store, it extends outward to form a lively hub for shopping and cultural exchange. The street stretches approximately 1.4 kilometers from Momotarō Ōdōri to National Route 250 and features a covered arcade, allowing visitors to shop comfortably in any weather.

From north to south, the shopping street is divided into six sections: Kaminochō, Nakanochō, Shimochō, Sakaemachi, Kamiyachō, and Sennichimae. At the intersection between Kamiyachō and Sennichimae—known as the “Circus Dome”—the streets branch east and west into Saidaijimachi Shopping Street and Shin-Saidaijimachi Shopping Street, creating an intricate grid layout with diverse shopping routes. Additionally, to the east lies the distinctive “Holland Street” shopping area, adding a touch of international flair to the Omote-chō district.

Omote-chō is more than just a shopping destination—it is home to numerous dining, leisure, and cultural facilities, ranging from traditional long-established shops to modern fashion brands. Various events and markets are held regularly, coordinated and promoted by the Omote-chō Shopping Street Association, a coalition of eight shopping streets. This ensures the district remains vibrant and bustling year-round. Strolling through the area, visitors can enjoy both the nostalgic charm of the Shōwa era and the convenience and diversity of a modern city.
