Kawaguchiko Station, located in Funatsu, Fujikawaguchiko Town, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture, is the terminus of the Fujikyuko Line operated by Fuji Kyuko (Fujisanroku Electric Railway). Its station number is FJ18, and it carries the subtitle “Fujikawaguchiko Onsen Town.” At an elevation of 857 meters, it serves as an important hub combining both tourism and transportation functions.
The station is a ground-level facility with two island platforms and three tracks. Passengers use the level crossing on the west side of the station grounds to move between the station building and platforms. On the south side lies the train yard with multiple sidings, where train movements are managed via a west-side pull-in line. The current wooden station building, completed in 2006, houses not only the headquarters of the Fujisanroku Electric Railway but also a highway bus ticket office, souvenir shop, and café. The ticket gates are equipped with simple Suica card readers. Outside the station, coin-operated lockers and restrooms are available, and in front of the station, an old Moha 1 series train car is preserved and displayed.
Every November, Fujikyu hosts the “Fujikyu Train Festival” within the station and train yard as part of the annual “Railway Day” celebrations. The station’s departure melody is the traditional song Fuji no Yama, adding a distinct local touch for travelers.
Kawaguchiko, the lake that lends the station its name, is only a five-minute walk to the north. About 15 minutes to the east lies the Kawaguchiko Station of the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, which offers sweeping views of Mt. Fuji. The station area also serves as the town center of Fujikawaguchiko, surrounded by facilities such as the town hall, high school, junior high school, elementary school, Yamanashi Red Cross Hospital, the Bell shopping center, and the Kawaguchiko Stellar Theater, offering both community and tourism amenities.
