Tenjō Mountain is a scenic peak located behind the Funatsu lakeside, the tourism center of the Fuji-Kawaguchiko area. The mountain is equipped with a ropeway (the Fuji Panoramic Ropeway), which takes only about three minutes from the foot of the mountain to the summit at an altitude of 1,075 meters. It is an excellent spot to overlook both Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi, and on clear days, visitors can also enjoy the magnificent view of the Southern Alps.

This location is also the setting of Osamu Dazai’s famous folk tale “Kachikachiyama.” On the mountain, you can find a monument dedicated to Dazai as well as themed landmarks related to the story. For those who prefer hiking, it is possible to descend along the mountain trail, where visitors can stop by the Tenjōzan Gokoku Shrine and experience the rich blend of nature and culture.

Every year from July to August, about 100,000 hydrangeas bloom along the mountainside, turning the entire mountain into a vibrant sea of flowers. It is one of the must-see flower-viewing spots in summer.
