Inasayama Summit Observatory

Mount Inasa is located in the western part of Nagasaki City, with an elevation of 333 meters. It is one of the city’s most iconic sightseeing spots. The mountain is not only a place where local citizens can enjoy nature in their daily lives but also a must-visit destination for international travelers. From the summit, visitors can take in magnificent views of the city and harbor. The night scenery, in particular, is renowned and often described as the “10-million-dollar night view.”

In 2018, Nagasaki’s night view was ranked alongside Sapporo and Kitakyushu as one of the “New Three Major Night Views of Japan.” In 2021, it was also selected, together with Shanghai and Monaco, as one of the “New Three Major Night Views of the World.” From the observation deck at the summit of Mount Inasa, visitors enjoy a 360-degree panorama that includes Nagasaki Harbor, the city lights, and, on clear days, distant views of Unzen, Amakusa, and the Goto Islands—a scene resembling a luminous painting.

Halfway up the mountain lies Inasayama Park, a popular spot for local leisure and gatherings. In spring, the park comes alive with colorful azalea blossoms, while in summer it often hosts large open-air concerts, turning the area into a stage where music and nature unite.

Access to Mount Inasa is very convenient. From Fuchi Shrine at the foot of the mountain, visitors can take a ropeway directly to the summit. The ropeway cars were designed by the same designer who once created models for Ferrari, offering passengers a panoramic view of Nagasaki City and its harbor. Since January 2020, an additional slope car has been available from Inasayama Park directly to the summit, making access even easier for visitors.

Mount Inasa is not only celebrated for its night views. During the daytime, the summit also offers sweeping vistas of Nagasaki Bay and the elegance of the surrounding cityscape.
