Address Mojiko Retro Sightseeing Line

The Mojiko Retro Sightseeing Line is a charming little railway filled with historical ambiance and romantic atmosphere. Running from Kyushu Railway History Museum Station to Kanmon Kaikyo Mekari Station, the line is short but connects many of the representative sights of the Mojiko Retro District.

Originally, this was a freight and port railway line that had been abandoned. Later, it was purchased and refurbished by Kitakyushu City, and reopened as the sightseeing train “Shiokaze-go” (Sea Breeze Train) in 2009.

The train has a cute, retro-style exterior and runs at a leisurely speed of about 15 km/h, allowing passengers to fully enjoy the scenery outside the window. Starting from the town area, the route passes through rows of warehouses and the harbor, before entering a tunnel beneath Mekari Park. As the view opens up, the Kanmon Strait unfolds magnificently on the left-hand side. Near the terminal, passengers can also see preserved nostalgic railway vehicles, evoking the atmosphere of Japan’s railways from the past.

Although the one-way journey only takes about 10 minutes, it condenses the history, retro mood, and scenic beauty of Mojiko into a short trip. The train mainly operates on weekends and holidays, with around 11 services a day, and offers very affordable fares, making it a perfect addition to a sightseeing stroll.

For many travelers, this is more than just a short railway ride — it is a way to experience the nostalgic charm of Mojiko. The slow pace, refreshing sea breeze, and rich sense of history along the way leave a lasting impression.
