Address Kanmon Tunnel Pedestrian Path

Beneath the Kanmon Strait lies a pedestrian tunnel stretching 780 meters in length. The tunnel has two levels: the upper level is used for vehicle traffic, while the lower level is reserved for pedestrians. Elevators are available at both entrances, descending about 60 meters from Moji (Fukuoka Prefecture) and about 55 meters from Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi Prefecture).

At the center of the tunnel stands a rare marker indicating the prefectural border between Fukuoka and Yamaguchi—unique for being located under the sea. Both ends of the walkway feature commemorative stamps. Visitors who collect these stamps and submit a short questionnaire at the tourist information office can receive a special “Kanmon Tunnel Completion Certificate,” a memorable keepsake from their journey.
