Yufuin Floral Village
Located in Yufu City, Ōita Prefecture, Yufuin Floral Village (湯布院フローラルヴィレッジ) is a charming small theme park inspired by the atmosphere of an English countryside village. Its picturesque streets and European-style architecture make it one of Yufuin’s most popular tourist spots. The village was modeled after the Cotswolds in England — one of the filming locations for the Harry Potter series — giving the entire area a romantic, almost magical charm.
Opened in 2012, Yufuin Floral Village is just a 15-minute walk (or 5-minute drive) from JR Yufuin Station, and only a few minutes from the Yufuin IC by car. Though compact in size, its layout is exquisitely detailed, resembling a storybook village. Colorful flowers bloom throughout the year, decorating stone cottages, English gardens, and quaint shops, immersing visitors in a relaxed, foreign ambiance.
One of the most popular attractions is “OWL’S FOREST” (Owl no Mori), home to many adorable owls that visitors can observe up close and even photograph. Among them is a snowy owl named Hedwig, just like the beloved pet of Harry Potter — a favorite among fans. At the “Owl’s Photo Studio,” visitors can don a Hogwarts-style robe, hold a wand, and let an owl perch gently on their hand for a truly magical souvenir photo.
The village also features several themed boutiques and gift shops. The “Moomin’s Shop” sells merchandise featuring characters like Little My and Snufkin, while “The Rabbit” offers goods themed around Peter Rabbit and his friends. There’s even a Pokémon store, a hit among children and adults alike. The streets are lined with cozy British-style shops, and vintage MINI cars parked at corners add to the delightful English charm — perfect for photo opportunities.
For a relaxing break, visitors can stop by “Gallery Alice’s Tearoom – Cheshire Cat’s Forest”, a cat café inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Decorated with whimsical forest motifs, the café exudes a warm, magical atmosphere. Friendly Bengal cats roam freely as guests enjoy afternoon tea and unwind in a truly soothing environment.
Within the village, there is also an accommodation option — the Yufuin Floral Village Hotel. The rooms feature Japanese-style tatami layouts, ideal for families or groups. Guests can enjoy the natural Floral Village Hot Spring, an open-air bath with free access for hotel guests. After bathing, visitors can relax in their rooms and admire the enchanting night scenery of the illuminated village. The entire facility is non-smoking, ensuring a peaceful and comfortable stay for all.
