Xiang Chu Rice Noodle Geng is a long-established snack shop located in Luodong, Yilan. In fact, the stinky tofu here is also quite famous. Their fluffy shaved ice is actually pretty good too—definitely worth trying if you visit.
When you enter the shop, you’ll see a cute illustration that probably depicts the elderly lady who handles the cashier. When you see her in person inside, you’ll likely find the resemblance quite striking.
Xiang Chu has been my go-to stinky tofu shop since I was a kid. I remember there used to be a swimming pool nearby, and after swimming, I would come here to eat stinky tofu. Back then, a combo of stinky tofu and rice noodle geng was only around NT$50. Now, ordering both costs about NT$100.
Inside the shop, you can see the menu items displayed on the signs. The fluffy shaved ice is also worth a try!
To be honest, after eating stinky tofu for so many years, it’s actually rare to find ones that truly smell stinky—Xiang Chu’s stinky tofu has a great aroma that I really enjoy.
This is the rice noodle geng. It wasn’t until I grew up that I realized how unique Yilan-style rice noodle geng really is. If you’re visiting, it’s definitely something you have to try.
The stinky tofu is served with their special sauce and pickled cabbage—it’s truly delicious.
It gets quite busy during holidays, but there’s also a second-floor seating area where you can dine.
If you’re visiting Luodong, you definitely shouldn’t miss Xiang Chu Rice Noodle Geng—be sure to try their rice noodle geng and stinky tofu!
