Address Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art

The Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art is located in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. It is the first art museum in the prefecture to be directly established and owned by a prefectural government, marking the moment when Tottori finally completed the last missing piece among Japan’s 47 prefectures to have a prefectural art museum. The museum was jointly designed by Maki and Associates and Takenaka Corporation, featuring a refined modern architectural style that harmonizes with the surrounding environment of Kurayoshi Park Square. The museum opened on March 30, 2025, and quickly attracted large numbers of visitors, surpassing 200,000 admissions within six months—achieving its first-year attendance target ahead of schedule and emerging as a new cultural highlight of the San’in region.

The establishment of the museum stemmed from the independence of the art division of the former Tottori Prefectural Museum in Tottori City, allowing the collection and exhibitions to be presented in a more comprehensive and professional manner. Prior to its opening, the most widely discussed topic was the acquisition of five sets of Andy Warhol’s iconic three-dimensional work Brillo Box for approximately 300 million yen, which now serves as a key part of the museum’s collection and a symbolic centerpiece of its exhibitions.
