Fujisawa Station

Fujisawa Station is located in the Fujisawa and Minami-Fujisawa areas of Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a railway station operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East), Odakyu Electric Railway, and Enoshima Electric Railway (commonly known as Enoden).

Fujisawa Station first opened on July 11, 1887 (Meiji 20), along with the completion of the government-operated railway line between the former Yokohama Station and Kōzu Station. It served as an access point to the Fujisawa-juku post town at that time. However, due to limitations in the railway line design, the station was not placed in the center of Fujisawa-juku (which lies along the Tōkaidō route), but rather about one kilometer to the south. At that time, the area around the station had not yet been developed.

Over time, public institutions such as the city office relocated near the station, spurring the development of the surrounding area. A large number of shops began to gather in front of the station, turning it into a major commercial district in the Shonan region. However, since the late 1990s, large shopping centers have gradually withdrawn, causing local commercial activity to decline.

Several bus routes operate in front of Fujisawa Station, making it a key public transportation hub within the city.
