Xiang Guang 2nd Military Dependents’ Village Cultural Park

Xian Guang Second Military Dependents’ Village (Xian Guang Ercun) is nestled within a modern urban residential area, yet it retains a quiet and simple atmosphere. Weathered walls, low bungalows, and old trees with fallen leaves give the impression that time has stopped here, exuding a sense of history and countless untold stories.

At the entrance of the village, the first row of houses hosts the ROC Military Dependents’ Village Resource Center, which serves as a national platform for military village networks. It is tasked with collection, education, exchange, promotion, and cross-regional collaboration, dedicated to cataloging and integrating military village resources while preserving and passing down collective memories. Xian Guang Second Village is one such settlement that provides valuable cultural resources.

The bungalows are arranged in neat rows. At the center on the right side lies the Banyan Tree Plaza, which was once a place where children played and adults gathered for conversations. Over fifty years have passed, and the small banyan tree planted back then has grown into a towering tree, still sheltering the land. In the past, the Military Police Command also screened patriotic films here, transforming the plaza into an open-air cinema, creating cherished memories for the villagers.

Another notable feature is Houses No. 44 and 45, which once served as administrative spaces for the self-governing association and the women’s work team. These facilities provided a venue for community meetings and events. During summer vacations, the Military Police Command dispatched college soldiers to teach children calligraphy and English here, much like an early form of summer tutoring classes. Today, the buildings still retain their original appearance, standing as living witnesses to the daily life of the past.
