Tainan City Art Museum Building 2

Tainan Art Museum Building 2 was co-designed by Taiwanese architect Shi Zhao-yong and the Japanese firm Shigeru Ban Architects. Shigeru Ban, a Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, brought international attention to the project from its early planning stages. The design takes inspiration from the flamboyant flame tree blossoms, a symbol of Tainan, transforming their petal-like shapes into pentagonal building volumes stacked in a rhythmic arrangement.
The museum integrates vertically staggered exhibition spaces with a fractured geometric roof. In daylight, the white layered structure appears airy and bright; at night, illuminated by lights, it gains a sculptural presence. Beyond exhibitions, the museum embraces a concept of public openness and social interaction, inviting both locals and visitors to experience how art blends seamlessly with everyday life.
