Lin Mo Niang Park

Lin Mo-niang Memorial Park is located on Anyi Road in Anping District, Tainan, and forms part of the Anping Harbor National Historic Scenic Area. Covering about 2 hectares, the park was designed by architect Tsai Yi-chang and built by the Tainan City Government. With its wide lawns and open scenery, the park is a popular leisure spot where visitors enjoy kite-flying, blowing bubbles, and strolling.

Its most iconic feature is the 16-meter statue of Lin Mo-niang (with an additional 4-meter base). Designed by Professor Li Weisi of Xiamen University and sculpted by Wang Wensheng of Hui’an, the statue was carved from durable Baifeng Stone (a type of granite resistant to sea wind). It was donated by Hsu Wen-lung, founder of Chi Mei Corporation, and completed through the Chi Mei Cultural Foundation with an investment of NT$20 million. Construction began in 2001, and the statue was officially unveiled in 2004 after a decade of planning.

Unlike the solemn Mazu statues typically seen in temples, this sculpture portrays Lin Mo-niang in her youth before her passing at 28. With its gentle and pure expression, it symbolizes filial piety and kindness. At the entrance, a bust of Lin Mo-niang and a stone stele inscribed “Filial Daughter Attains Divinity” invite visitors to reflect on her story and virtues.
