Songshan Station is located at the border between Xinyi District and Songshan District in Taipei City, Taiwan. It is an underground joint station that integrates both the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and the Taipei Metro, serving multiple functions such as transportation transfer, commercial development, and cultural display. Situated at the intersection of Bade Road and Songshan Road, it lies between Taipei’s East District and the residential areas to the northeast, making it an important transportation hub and local urban center.
The TRA Songshan Station belongs to the Western Trunk Line. Established in 1887, it has a long history and was once known as “Xikou Railway Pier” and “Matsuyama Station,” serving as one of Taipei’s earliest and most significant transportation nodes. The current station complex was completely reconstructed and reopened in 2008. Fully underground, it was built under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model by the RunTai Group and is integrated with the CITYLINK shopping mall and a mixed-use building above, creating a multifunctional space that combines transportation, shopping, and leisure. The TRA station features two island platforms and four tracks on the second basement level, while the first basement level contains waiting areas and commercial facilities, designed to streamline passenger flow and connect seamlessly with the Metro station.
The Taipei Metro Songshan Station, designated as G19, is the northern terminal of the Songshan–Xindian Line (Songshan Line). Located beneath Section 4 of Bade Road and adjacent to the rear area of the TRA station, it is a three-level underground structure with one island platform and five exits. The concourse linking the Metro and TRA stations features an oval-shaped hall and the public artwork “Where the River Bends, Blossoms Bloom Under the Dome of Light”, blending functionality with aesthetics. A dedicated underground passageway connects the Metro and TRA, facilitating transfers and shared use of space.
Above the station, the RunTai Songshan Station Complex is a large-scale development project that includes the CITYLINK shopping mall, office spaces, and hotel facilities, integrated with the railway and metro systems. This joint development model not only enhances the overall functionality of the district but also brings a new urban landscape to the Songshan area. Currently classified as a first-class TRA station, Songshan Station handles more than 30,000 passengers daily, ranking among the top ten busiest railway stations in Taiwan.
