Naha Airport

Naha Airport (IATA code: OKA; ICAO code: ROAH) is located in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, and is classified as a second-class airport in Japan. After the end of World War II, the airport was taken over by the U.S. military and became Naha Air Base under the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). As civil aviation services between Tokyo and Okinawa gradually resumed, the airport began operating as a joint military-civilian facility in 1954. The U.S. Air Force ceased operations at the base on May 31, 1971, and transferred the management of civil aviation operations to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The site was then officially designated as Naha Airport. In April 1982, the U.S. military formally handed over control of the airport facilities to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.

Naha Airport also serves as the base for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Southwestern Air Defense Force and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's 5th Air Wing. It is one of the few civilian airports in Japan that operates 24 hours a day throughout the year.
