American Village is located in the Mihama area of Chatan Town in central Okinawa, about 20 kilometers from Naha Airport, which takes approximately 40 minutes by car. After World War II, Okinawa was under American administration before being returned to Japan, but many U.S. military bases remain. American Village was originally developed on land returned by the U.S. military and reclaimed from the sea. Due to the nearby presence of numerous U.S. military facilities and American residents, the entire area has a strong American atmosphere. It attracts not only tourists from Japan and abroad but also many U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan and their families. Among Okinawa’s many internationally influenced areas, American Village is considered one of the most distinctly American.
