Ina City is located at the northern end of the Ina Valley in southern Nagano Prefecture, within the Minami-Shin region. The city is flanked by the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps) to the east and the Kiso Mountains (Central Alps) to the west, with the Tenryu River running through its center—forming a classic “two mountains with one river in between” landscape. The highest point is the eastern peak of Mount Shiomi in the Southern Alps, with an elevation of 3,052 meters.
Along the Tenryu River, the JR Central Iida Line and National Route 153 pass through the city, with transportation centered around Ina City Station, where the main urban area is concentrated. Takato Town and the Hase area are situated between the Southern Alps and the Ina Mountains, lying along the Median Tectonic Line. This area features diverse terrain and natural scenery, making it an important residential and sightseeing region in the Minami-Shin area.
