Tainan Park

Tainan Park, formerly known as Zhongshan Park, is located in the North District of Tainan City. It is the city's oldest and largest park, established in 1917, covering over 40,000 pings (approximately 15 hectares). At the time of its founding, it also served as a tropical experimental forest.

This century-old park is best known for its picturesque scenery, particularly the “Moonlight Over Yan Pond.” When the full moon hangs in the night sky and reflects on the pond’s surface, it creates a poetic and dreamlike scene, as if the moon itself has descended into the water. From morning to night, many residents stroll, exercise, or spend time with loved ones around the pond. On holidays, Yan Pond becomes a popular destination for families and an ideal spot for photographers, making it a cherished memory shared by both locals and visitors.

In 2017, to celebrate the park’s 100th anniversary, a renowned Japanese garden designer was invited to restore the waterfall landscape. The restored waterfall retains a strong Japanese garden style, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of nature, recreating the park’s elegant atmosphere from a century ago. Near the waterfall is the park management office, built with coral stone walls, a red roof, and round windows—resembling a quaint European cottage. Throughout the park, colorful landscape features blend history with nature, offering a truly unforgettable experience.

On the west side of the park, near the Tainan Transfer Station, lies a large grove filled with Bauhinia trees. Each March, as spring arrives, the grove bursts into bloom with waves of pink and purple flowers, transforming Tainan Park into a vibrant and enchanting spring spectacle.
