Conan Bridge
Conan Bridge is a representative landmark of Hokuei Town in Tottori Prefecture, Japan. It was completed and opened to traffic on December 23, 1999, and has a total length of approximately 70 meters. Located in the hometown of Gosho Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan, the bridge was designed around the theme of the series and has become an important part of the “Conan Town” tourist route.
Constructed with reinforced concrete, the bridge is designed for two-way pedestrian traffic. It connects Yura Station (also known as “Conan Station”) with the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory, forming a convenient triangular walking route that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the manga from the moment they leave the station.
The bridge incorporates numerous anime-inspired design elements. At the bridge entrances stand four character statues, including Edogawa Conan holding his bow-tie voice changer, Conan riding a skateboard, and two statues of Shinichi Kudo in different poses, all of which have become popular photo spots for visitors. Embedded in the bridge deck are more than ten bronze reliefs and three-dimensional sculptures supervised by Gosho Aoyama, recreating iconic scenes and hidden character details from Detective Conan. The railings are styled like comic panels, and closer inspection reveals bow-tie motifs and drainage covers shaped like detective badges, showcasing the thoughtful attention to detail.
Both sides of the bridge feature relief walls depicting manga scenes, groups of character sculptures, and carved benches that transform memorable moments from the series into tactile public art. At the center of the bridge, a plaque bearing Gosho Aoyama’s handwritten signature is inlaid, symbolizing the creator’s affection for and support of his hometown.
More than just a transportation structure, the bridge stands as a symbol that combines tourism, culture, and regional revitalization. Hokuei Town, once best known for its watermelon cultivation, has successfully developed the “Conan Town” brand through the integration of Detective Conan-related attractions, generating new economic vitality for the area. As a result, Conan Bridge has become a must-visit landmark for fans and family travelers alike.
