National Center for Traditional Arts

Located in the Dongshan River Scenic Area of Wujie Township, Yilan County, the National Center for Traditional Arts is a key institution in Taiwan dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional culture. Established in 2002, the center spans approximately 24 hectares. It is situated just across the river from the renowned Water Park, offering a scenic environment that blends natural beauty with cultural heritage.
The entire park is thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of traditional performing arts such as opera, music, dance, crafts, and folk acrobatics. It features 21 buildings and several landscaped areas, combining traditional architectural styles with eco-friendly green building concepts. The park is clearly divided into functional zones, including an administrative area, accommodation area, performance hall area, craft workshop area, industrial landscape area, and parking facilities, catering to the needs of both visitors and artists.
The center is committed to the research, preservation, and performance of traditional arts. Through various educational and outreach programs, traditional skills are extended into schools and communities, integrating into everyday life and helping to establish a unique cultural identity for Taiwan.
Since 2016, the center has been operated by the PXMart Foundation for Culture and Arts, which undertook comprehensive renovations and content updates. Interactive installations such as the "Misty Forest" and "Shimmering Fish Tunnel" were introduced, adding a sense of novelty and artistic ambiance to the park. These efforts have also turned the center into a dynamic platform for local artists and traditional artisans to showcase their work.
The National Center for Traditional Arts is more than just a cultural venue—it is a multifaceted space that combines education, entertainment, and artistic experience. It is an ideal place to learn about Taiwan's traditional culture and a wonderful destination for families to explore the beauty of folk arts.
