The City Light Gallery is a prominent urban leisure space located in the heart of Kaohsiung, along Wufu Road between Zhongshan and Zhonghua Roads. Adjacent to Central Park, and close to MRT Central Park Station, the Xin Juejiang shopping district, and Datong Department Store 262, it is a unique cultural destination that blends art, lifestyle, and aesthetics.
Originally opened in October 2001 under the initiative of then-mayor Frank Hsieh, the space was intended as a new cultural landmark for the city. After a redesign, it reopened on July 31, 2010, with Mayor Chen Chu baking the first wood-fired pizza during the launch ceremony, marking a fresh start with the motto “Savor Life: A New Urban Space.”
The revamped City Light Gallery features Italian-style wood-fired pizzas made with local ingredients and inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. A variety of Italian dishes, coffee, and beverages are offered, creating a space where locals and tourists alike can enjoy healthy and flavorful meals. The architectural design emphasizes openness and harmony with nature, using large glass panels to draw in views of Central Park. Sustainable materials such as longan wood, red bricks, and recyclable steel reflect its eco-conscious philosophy.
The space is outfitted with diverse furniture to foster a relaxing, inclusive atmosphere suited for all. Visitors can also engage in DIY pizza-making, view resident artists’ creations, or join guided tours to learn about surrounding landmarks—making the venue a vibrant hub of performance, food, culture, and creativity.
The artistic design was collaboratively created by nine local Kaohsiung artists under the theme of “light.” Everyday urban elements such as bus stops, traffic lights, utility boxes, and trash bins are transformed into art, seamlessly blending public art with daily life and showcasing the distinctive cultural identity of Kaohsiung.
