A legend known as “The Turtle and the Snake Guarding the Bay” has long been passed down in the Lanyang region. In this tale, the "turtle" refers to Guishan Island, while the "snake" symbolizes the continuous stretch of sand dunes. The Lize Sand Dune Coast is a particularly representative part of this unique landscape.

Due to marine erosion, the coastline of the Lanyang Plain takes on a slightly concave, bow-shaped curve. The Lanyang River and Dongshan River carry vast amounts of silt and sediment into the sea. With their strong erosive force and rich sediment load, combined with the annually arriving and long-lasting northeast monsoons, the coastline has gradually advanced eastward, forming a pointed delta. This delta remains highly active in terms of sediment deposition, ultimately giving rise to the Lize coast's distinctive landscape of multi-ridge sand dunes that reach several dozen meters in height.

The undulating dune terrain makes it difficult for river water to flow directly into the sea. As a result, low-lying areas between the dunes often become year-round wetlands, creating a unique ecosystem. These dune wetlands are home to vegetation such as silvergrass, screwpines, and acacia trees. The lush greenery interwoven with the brown sand dunes paints a striking and wild natural scene.

Compared to the bustling, popular beaches, the Lize Sand Dune Coast offers a sense of peace and remoteness. The rhythmic sound of waves fills the ears, a boundless seascape stretches out before the eyes, and in the distance stands the quietly majestic Guishan Island. It is a place that soothes the spirit and relaxes the body and mind — a perfect hidden sanctuary for city dwellers seeking to escape the noise and reconnect with nature.
