Lantan Moon Reflection in the Lake

Moon Reflections, Heart of the Lake is an artwork created by artist Wang Wen-Chih, situated atop the surface of Lantan Lake. Using an aluminum sheet weaving technique, it forms an airy, nest-like structure that appears to float on the water, creating an artistic space in harmony with its surroundings. The design blends natural and urban imagery: “Moon Reflections” symbolizes the moonlit beauty shimmering on the lake at night, while “Heart of the Lake” refers both to the ripples at the lake’s center and to the Chinese homophone for “heart-to-heart talk,” evoking a leisurely atmosphere where visitors can sightsee, converse, and relax.

The work’s details are filled with symbolic references to Chiayi’s local culture. The shape atop the nest resembles a peach, alluding to Chiayi’s old name, “Peach City.” The side structure resembles a turkey’s tail feathers, subtly referencing the city’s famous turkey rice. More than just an art installation, it is a spatial landscape that gathers local identity and cultural memory.

Stepping inside the nest, visitors can look outward through its open lattice to take in the panoramic lake and mountain scenery, reminiscent of the poetic imagery of scholars gazing into the distance. Whether under a clear daytime sky, amid mist and rain, or in the calm of nightfall, the site presents different layers of beauty. At night, lighting effects create shifting patterns of illumination, adding a dreamlike ambiance to nighttime strolls around Lantan, making it a key spot for both evening recreation and art tourism in the city.
