Odori Park

Odori Park is located in Chuo Ward, Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Japan. It is a large green space that stretches across the center of Sapporo. The park extends from Odori Nishi 1-chome to Odori Nishi 12-chome, with a total length of approximately 1.5 kilometers. Originally designed as a commercial boulevard under Sapporo's urban planning, it gradually evolved into a prominent landmark park, featuring spacious plazas and green areas.
Situated in the downtown area, the park's design follows a grid-like urban layout. Surrounding neighborhoods are typically named with Odori Park as a central reference, using directional and numerical indicators, such as “Kita 17-jō Higashi 5-chōme” (North 17 East 5) or “Minami 9-jō Nishi 15-chōme” (South 9 West 15). The Sōsei River serves as the dividing line between east and west, while the park itself represents the so-called “Odori,” the north-south boundary of Sapporo. The roadways flanking the park are called “North Odori” and “South Odori,” with traffic flowing east and west along these routes respectively.
As a central median, Odori Park is notably wide—approximately 65 meters. The entire park area can be roughly categorized into three main zones based on function: a commercial area, a scenic area, and an urban landscape design area.
