Fanlu Township, located in the eastern part of Chiayi County, Taiwan, sits between Chiayi City and Alishan. It is a township that blends natural scenery with rich historical and cultural heritage. With a geographically advantageous position, it is well-connected—bordering Zhuqi Township to the north, Alishan Township to the east, the East District of Chiayi City to the west, and Zhongpu and Dapu Townships to the south. It shares a common living area with Chiayi City and enjoys convenient transportation.
The name "Fanlu" originates from its historical role as a main route leading to the Tsou tribal settlements in Alishan. It was originally called "Fan-tsai Road" (meaning “aboriginal route”), which was later simplified to "Fanlu." During the Qing Dynasty, it was a vital trading point between Han settlers and indigenous peoples, serving as a strategic gateway connecting the old Zhu Luo County (modern-day Chiayi) with the Alishan region.
In terms of local products, Fanlu Township is renowned for its persimmons and dried persimmons, which are a hallmark of its agricultural economy. During the autumn and winter seasons, the area attracts many tourists who come to pick fruits and enjoy the local specialty products.
