Xincheng Township (Taroko: Alang paru, Amis: Sudadatan) is located in northern Hualien County, Taiwan, adjacent to Hualien City. It is considered one of the key satellite towns of Hualien City. Covering an area of approximately 29.41 square kilometers, it shares the distinction of being the smallest administrative district in the county with Hualien City. Its geography is characterized by a narrow north-south coastal plain, earning it the nickname "Xincheng Corridor."
Xincheng Township enjoys convenient transportation, with major infrastructure such as Provincial Highways 8 and 9, the Taiwan Railway North-Link Line, and Hualien Airport. It is situated at the southern end of the Suhua Highway and the eastern end of the Central Cross-Island Highway, making it a vital transportation hub between Yilan and Hualien.
Economically, Xincheng is known for its agriculture, fishing, and stone processing industries. Major crops include papayas, corn, vegetables, rice, and sweet potatoes. The fishing industry is concentrated along the southeastern coast, yielding a variety of catches such as bonito, flying fish, marlin, ribbonfish, and sharks. Notably, Xincheng is a major source of ocean sunfish (mola mola) in Taiwan, accounting for over 60% of the total catch along the Hualien-Taitung coast, which has earned it the title "Hometown of the Mola Mola."
