Lizejian Old Street

Lizejian Old Street is located in Wujie Township, Yilan County. It is a linear street with distinct local characteristics, approximately 100 meters in length. The street features a symmetrical arrangement of shophouses on both sides, with a north-south oriented road running through the center, creating a simple yet nostalgic spatial layout. The northern end of the street begins at Lisheng Hospital and extends southward to the Lize Retail Market and the Lizejian Police Station.

Some buildings on the old street still retain the historical appearance of early shophouses, showcasing the charm and memory of traditional architecture. However, many structures have been rebuilt into modern buildings over time. On both sides of the street, there are residential homes, dental clinics, and a variety of shops such as grocery stores, barbershops, bicycle shops, joss paper stores, traditional Chinese medicine shops, pharmacies, optical stores, and jewelry shops—making it an essential area for residents’ daily lives.

The shophouses on the eastern side of the street have mostly been updated to modern buildings and house facilities such as a farmers’ association, warehouse areas, and a lumber processing plant. The western side is close to Provincial Highway 7C and borders the natural landscape of the 52-hectare wetland, giving the old street a unique atmosphere that lies between urban and rural, traditional and modern. Looking north, the bright red Lizejian Bridge adds a distinctive landmark feature to this stretch of road.
