Meihua Lake

Meihua Lake is located in De'an Village, Dongshan Township, Yilan County, Taiwan. It is a natural lake surrounded by mountains on three sides. A lakeside road, approximately 4 kilometers long, encircles the lake, making it ideal for visitors to enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains by bicycle. Along the lakeshore, there are several shops offering bicycle rentals, providing convenient options for tourists. On the mountain overlooking the lake stands Sanqing Temple, the main Taoist temple, which is open for both worshippers and visitors.

Meihua Lake was formerly known as "Dapi," in contrast to a nearby small mountain lake called "Xiaopi." It is also one of the "Eighteen Scenic Spots of Lanyang" and was historically referred to as "Jian Lake in the Autumn Moonlight." The late County Magistrate Chen Jin-Dong once composed a poem titled Admiring the Scenery of Jian Lake to praise its beauty, allowing the elegant name "Jian Lake" to be passed down through generations. In 1964, because the shape of the lake resembles a five-petaled plum blossom, then-President Chiang Ching-kuo officially named it "Meihua Lake."
