Yuejin Harbor

Yuejin Port Waterfront Park is located in Yanshui District, Tainan. Once known as Yuejin Port, this area prospered during the Qing dynasty. Its crescent-shaped waterway gave it its name, and it was celebrated as one of Taiwan’s four great towns: “Tainan, Lukang, Bangka, and Yuejin.” Over time, however, the port silted up, losing its role in trade and becoming a stagnant pond that caused floods and foul odors.

In 2004, the government launched the “Reviving the Glory of Yuejin” project, including dredging, sewage control, and environmental restoration. Completed in 2010, the park now spans over 7 hectares, transforming the old harbor into an ecological and recreational space.

Since 2012, the annual Yuejin Lantern Festival has illuminated the waterfront with artistic installations and colorful reflections on the water, turning the site into a cultural landmark and one of southern Taiwan’s most iconic Lunar New Year events.

Stretching 5 kilometers, the park features green spaces, bike paths, walking trails, and bridges such as Shuiyue Bridge, Guyue Bridge, and Xinglong Bridge. Native Taiwanese trees and layered plantings enhance both biodiversity and landscape beauty, allowing visitors to enjoy nature while rediscovering Yanshui’s rich history.
