Luodong Dian'an Temple (Diyue Temple)

Angong Temple is located in Luodong Township, Yilan County, and is one of the area's most historic temples. It was established in the first year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1851 AD). Initially, local residents from the third district of Luodong built a rammed-earth house on the current site to worship the God of Five Grains—Shennong Dadi—and named the temple “Wugu Wang Temple.” Due to the large number of devotees and flourishing incense offerings, it became the center of spiritual belief for local residents.
According to local legend, a severe plague once broke out in the Luodong area. During this time, Xuantian Shangdi is said to have manifested to save the people, bringing an end to the epidemic. In gratitude for this divine intervention, the residents decided to rebuild the temple. With the "consent" of Shennong Dadi, Xuantian Shangdi was enshrined as the principal deity, and the temple was renamed "Dian’an Temple." Since then, both Xuantian Shangdi and Shennong Dadi have been worshipped together.
Unlike typical statues of Xuantian Shangdi in other temples in Taiwan, the one enshrined at Dian’an Temple is uniquely styled—with a fair face, sparse facial hair, and a goatee. This depiction is considered rare throughout the island.
Dian’an Temple is regarded as the “principal temple” of Luodong and has long played an important role in local folk religion. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month—the birthday of Xuantian Shangdi—the temple hosts a grand celebration known as the “Luodong Great Worship,” attracting large numbers of worshippers and visitors.
