Ami Town is located in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture and belongs to Inashiki District. It is a local municipality that, together with neighboring cities such as Tsuchiura, forms the Tsuchiura-Ami urban planning area. Among all town-level administrative units in Ibaraki Prefecture, Ami Town has the largest population, characterized by both its population scale and urban functions.

The town blends historical sites with modern facilities, offering diverse tourism resources. Historically, there is the site of Kamijo Castle, dating back to the Sengoku period. The Yokaren Peace Memorial Museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the former Japanese Navy Air Corps' preparatory flight training program (commonly known as "Yokaren"), serving educational and peace-promoting purposes.

In terms of modern leisure and shopping, Ami Town is home to the well-known Ami Premium Outlets, a major shopping center in the northern Kanto region, featuring numerous domestic and international brands that attract visitors from far and wide. Additionally, the Eagle Point Golf Club offers high-quality golf facilities, making it a prime destination for upscale leisure activities. The town also hosts a sumo stable, the Nishonoseki-beya.
