Tsukubamirai City, located in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture, is a young city established in 2006 through the merger of the former Ina Town and Yawara Village. It lies within the Tokyo metropolitan area and offers excellent commuting convenience and strong development potential.
Much of the city area was developed during the Edo period under the leadership of Tadaharu Ina, the Kanto regional governor, and was known as the "30,000-koku Yawara Domain," characterized at the time by its typical rural landscape. From the 1960s onward, residential development in the Ina area began, and with the opening of the Jōban Expressway in the 1980s and the planning of the Jōsō New Town "Kinunodai," the city gradually began transforming into a satellite city of central Tokyo.
Following the opening of the Tsukuba Express line in 2005, commuting to Tokyo became significantly easier, further accelerating urbanization. Centered around Miraidaira Station, new town development has been booming, attracting a large number of new residents—particularly young families and commuters.
